{"id":1414,"date":"2006-04-18T10:32:06","date_gmt":"2006-04-18T10:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.creativeyouthideas.com\/resources\/?p=1414"},"modified":"2021-04-08T23:17:15","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T15:17:15","slug":"parenting-childrens-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.creativeyouthideas.com\/resources\/food-for-thought\/parenting-childrens-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"Memos from a Child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.creativeyouthideas.com\/resources\/child.jpg\" alt=\"Parenting Children\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The Struggles of Parenting<\/h2>\n<p>When parenting, sometimes it&#8217;s hard to tell the difference between what a child NEEDS and what a child merely wants. \u00a0Giving in to their every wish isn&#8217;t necessarily the best way to raise a child. \u00a0In addition, children aren&#8217;t always able to express their true feelings and needs accurately. \u00a0Also, in their often simple thinking, they don&#8217;t realize the implications and sometimes dangers that come together with granting their requests. \u00a0Listed below are some &#8220;Memo&#8217;s from a child&#8221; which give great insights into the true needs of a child for those who are parenting young children.<\/p>\n<h3>Memos from a Child<\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Don&#8217;t spoil me. I know quite well that I ought not to have all I ask for &#8230; I&#8217;m only testing you.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t be afraid to be firm with me. I prefer it .. it makes me feel more secure.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t correct me in front of people if you can help it. I&#8217;ll take much more notice if you talk to me in private.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t make me feel that my mistakes are sins. It upsets my sense of values.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t be too upset if I say &#8220;I hate you.&#8221; It isn&#8217;t that I hate you, but only that I need your attention.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t protect me from consequence. I need to learn the hard way.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t take too much notice of my small ailment. Sometimes they get me the attention I want.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t nag. If you do, I shall have to protect myself by appearing deaf.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t make rash promises. Remember that I feel badly let down when promises are broken.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t forget that I cannot explain myself as well as I should like. This is why I&#8217;m not always accurate.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t tax my honesty too much. I am easily frightened into telling lies.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t be inconsistent. That completely confuses me and makes me lose my faith in you.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t put me off when I ask you questions. If you do, you will find that I stop asking and seek my information elsewhere.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t tell me my fears are silly. They are terribly real and you can do much to try to understand.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t ever suggest that you are perfect or infallible. It gives me too great a shock when I discover that you are neither.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t ever think it beneath your dignity to apologize to me. An honest apology makes me feel surprisingly warm to you.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t forget how quickly I am growing up. It must be very difficult for you to keep pace with me but please try.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t forget I love experimenting. I couldn&#8217;t get along without it, so please put up with it.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t forget that I can&#8217;t thrive without lots of love.
