‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the abode
\nonly one creature was stirring, and she was cleaning the commode.
\nThe children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
\nwhile visions of Nintendo 64 and Barbie flipped through their heads.
\nThe dad was snoring in front of the TV,
\nwith a half-constructed bicycle perched on his knee.<\/p>\n

So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
\nwhich made her sigh, “Now what’s the matter?”
\nWith toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
\nshe descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
\nHe was covered with soot, which fell with a shrug.
\n“Oh great,” muttered the mom, “Now I have to clean the rug.”<\/p>\n

“Ho-ho-ho!” cried Santa, “I’m glad you’re awake.
\nYour gift was especially difficult to make.”
\n“Thanks, Santa, but all I want is some time alone.”
\n“Exactly!” he chuckled, “I’ve made you a clone.”
\n“A clone?” she asked, “What good is that?
\nRun along, Santa, I’ve no time for chit-chat.”<\/p>\n

“This is your twin–Same hair, same eyes,
\nsame double chin. She’ll cook, she’ll dust,
\nshe’ll mop every mess. You’ll relax, take it easy,
\nwatch \u2018The Young & the Restless.\u2019”
\n“Fantastic!” the mom cheered.
\n“My dream come true! I’ll shop. I’ll read.
\nI’ll sleep a whole night through! ”<\/p>\n

From the room above, the youngest began to fret.
\n“Mommy?! I’m scared…and I’m wet.”
\nThe clone replied, “I’m coming, sweetheart.”
\n“Hey,” the mom smiled, “She knows her part.”
\nThe clone changed the small one, and hummed a tune,
\nas she bundled the child, in a blanket cocoon.
\n“You\u2019re the best mommy ever. I really love you.”
\nThe clone smiled and sighed, “I love you, too.”<\/p>\n

The mom frowned and said, “Sorry, Santa, no deal.
\nThat’s my child’s love, she’s trying to steal.”
\nSmiling wisely Santa said, “To me it is clear,
\nOnly one loving mother is needed here.”
\nThe mom kissed her child, and tucked her into bed.
\n“Thank you, Santa, for clearing my head.
\nI sometimes forget, it won’t be very long,
\nwhen they’ll be too old, for my cradle-song.”<\/p>\n

The clock on the mantle began to chime.
\nSanta whispered to the clone, “It works every time.”
\nWith the clone by his side Santa said, “Goodnight.
\nMerry Christmas, Mom, You’ll be all right.”<\/p>\n
