There once was an oyster
\nWhose story I tell,
\nWho found that some sand
\nHad got into its shell.<\/p>\n

It was only a grain,
\nBut it gave him great pain;
\nFor oysters have feelings
\nAlthough they’re so plain.<\/p>\n

Now, did he berate
\nThe harsh workings of fate
\nThat had brought him
\nTo such a deplorable state?<\/p>\n

Did he curse at the government,
\nCry for election,
\nAnd claim that the sea should
\nHave given him protection?<\/p>\n

No! He said to himself
\nAs he lay on a shell,
\n“Since I cannot remove it,
\nI’ll try to improve it.”<\/p>\n

Now the years have rolled by,
\nAs the years always do,
\nAnd he came to his ultimate
\nDestiny–stew.<\/p>\n

And the small grain of sand
\nThat had bothered him so
\nWas a beautiful pearl
\nAll richly aglow.<\/p>\n

Now the tale has a moral;
\nFor isn’t it grand
\nWhat an oyster can do
\nWith a small grain of sand?<\/p>\n

What couldn’t we do
\nIf we’d only begin
\nWith some of the things
\nThat get under our skin.<\/p>\n
