Activity<\/strong>
\nHave children \/ youth list things that their mothers say to them. As a fun variation, ask them to list three of the most common things said by their mothers to them on a piece of paper. Place them in a bowl and randomly distribute them. Youth must then try to guess whose mother the sayings come from.<\/p>\n

Debrief<\/strong>
\nDiscuss how these things are a mother’s way of taking care of them. See the list below for some ideas. You could also ask children \/ youth how many of their mothers have said things like these. What is the rationale behind these sayings? Are they all true?<\/p>\n

Sayings of Mothers<\/em>
\n\u2022 A little “birdy” told me!
\n\u2022 A little soap & water never killed anybody.
\n\u2022 Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.
\n\u2022 Am I talking to a brick wall?
\n\u2022 Answer me when I ask you a question!
\n\u2022 Are you deaf or something?
\n\u2022 Are you going out dressed like that?
\n\u2022 Are you lying to me?
\n\u2022 Are your hands broken? Pick it up yourself! I’m not your maid!
\n\u2022 As long as you live under my roof, you’ll do as I say.
\n\u2022 Call me when you get there, just so I know you’re okay.
\n\u2022 Clean up after yourself!
\n\u2022 Close the door behind you \u2014 were you born in a barn?
\n\u2022 Cupcakes are NOT a breakfast food!
\n\u2022 Did you brush your teeth?
\n\u2022 Did you flush?
\n\u2022 Did you clean your room?
\n\u2022 Did you comb your hair?
\n\u2022 Do as I say, not as I do
\n\u2022 Do I look like a maid?
\n\u2022 Do you think I’m made of money?
\n\u2022 Do you think this is a hotel?
\n\u2022 Do you think your socks are going to pick themselves up?
\n\u2022 Don’t ask me WHY. The answer is NO
\n\u2022 Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back
\n\u2022 Don\u2019t cross your eyes or they\u2019ll freeze that way.
\n\u2022 Don’t eat the seeds or you’ll have watermelons growing out your ears
\n\u2022 Don’t EVER let me catch you doing that again!
\n\u2022 Don’t go out with wet hair, you’ll catch cold.
\n\u2022 Don’t make me come in there!
\n\u2022 Don’t make me get up!
\n\u2022 Don\u2019t pick it, it\u2019ll get infected.
\n\u2022 Don\u2019t put that in your mouth, you don\u2019t know where it\u2019s been.
\n\u2022 Don’t run in the house
\n\u2022 Don’t sit too close to the television
\n\u2022 Don\u2019t talk with your mouth full!
\n\u2022 Don\u2019t use that tone with me!
\n\u2022 Don’t walk away when I’m talking to you!
\n\u2022 Don’t you have anything better to do?
\n\u2022 Eat those carrots, they\u2019re good for your eyes. Have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?
\n\u2022 Eat your vegetables, they’re good for you.
\n\u2022 Enough is enough!
\n\u2022 Go ask your father
\n\u2022 Go to your room and wait until your daddy gets home!
\n\u2022 How can you have nothing to wear? your closet is FULL of clothes!
\n\u2022 How do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tasted it?
\n\u2022 How many times do I have to tell you…don\u2019t throw things in the house!

Application<\/strong><\/p>\n

God gives us instructions and takes care of us, just like our mothers do. Everything he says can be trusted and is for our benefit. We should be thankful to God for mothers to take care of us. They might not always be perfect as God is, but they do love us and are a little bit of heaven on earth.<\/p>\n

This Mother’s Day teaching activity can be a Children’s Sermon or a reminder for any day that mothers look after us just as the Heavenly Father does.<\/em><\/p>\n
